Auto Insurance Plano State Minimums

Ifyou drive a vehicle in the Dallas metro area, you may have auto insurance Plano cover. The amount of insurance cover you need will vary according to your assets and needs. Texas requires minimum levels of insurance cover.
Note that the minimum limits may not be enough. A car accident can cost far more than the limits mandated by Texas. The Insurance Information Institute recommends you carry at least $100,000 of bodily injury protection per person and $300,000 per accident (this is known as 100/300).
Auto Insurance Plano coverage has the following minimums:
$30,000 Bodily injury liability maximum for one person injured in an accident.
$60,000 Bodily injury liability maximum for all injuries in one accident.
$30,000 Property damage liability maximum for one accident.
Uninsured Motorist Coverage is not required. Uninsured Motorist coverage covers bodily injuries to you and your passengers when the other person has no insurance or not enough insurance in a crash that is not your fault. Given the large number of uninsured motorists around Plano, this is very important coverage to have, but not a state requirement for auto insurance Plano.
Auto insurance on a Plano rental car

When you are renting a car in the Dallas area or DFW airport, auto insurance Plano options can be confusing at the rental desk. Should you use your own insurance policies or the rental car company’s? This article explains the options.
If you already have car insurance, the type of coverage that you already have, along with its deductibles, usually applies to rental cars as well. If you have collision coverage, that will cover damage you cause to any car that you’re driving, with your normal deductable. Note that auto insurance policies say that your collision insurance is “excess” to any other coverage, meaning that any coverage you buy from the rental car company is used first. Similarly if you have comprehensive coverage, that will likely apply to any rental car you drive and cover fire, theft, vandalism or animal collisions. If you cause an accident, your liability insurance will pay for the damages you cause to someone else, plus any medical expenses that arise up to the limits of your policy.
If you don’t have auto insurance Plano, or don’t wish to risk losing your current discount, you can use the rental car company’s insurance. Several options are available from the rental car companies: Loss damage waivers (LDW) and collision damage waivers (CDW) take the place of your own collision and comprehensive insurance. Some LDWs include the CDW, and some waivers require you to pay a deductible, similar to your existing comprehensive and collision insurance.
If you already have comprehensive and collision insurance for your own car, you don’t need duplicate coverage, as you already have it. But if you’ve dropped your comprehensive and collision coverage or don’t have auto insurance, it is worth the money. If you have your own liability insurance, it will generally kick in first in the event of an accident. Note there is no deductible for liability insurance.
You might decline the LDW altogether if you have collision and comprehensive coverage because you’d be paying for “double coverage.” But remember that you still have to pay your deductible if the car is stolen or vandalized, or if you have an accident.
Another thing to remember when it comes to auto insurance Plano is that most states require the rental companies to automatically provide at least the minimum required liability coverage at no charge to you. In the Plano Texas area that is 30/60/30 thousand liability. If you feel that you can take the risk with just the minimum policy, you don’t have to purchase any auto insurance Plano liability insurance at all.
